Burnt Governor Fayemi’s Campaign Office
“There was a protest in town but the police have moved in,” Babayemi said. “For now, we are trying to restore normalcy and ensure lives and property are secured.”
The force spokesman, who confirmed that, APC secretariat and Mr. Fayemi’s campaign office had been vandalised and burnt, said the immediate cause of the violent protest is unclear.
He, however, hinted that the state had been on the edge since Monday when thugs believed to be sympathetic to the PDP stormed a court and assaulted the judge, O. Ogunyemi, who was hearing a case concerning the eligibility of Governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, for the recent governorship election in the state. Continue reading....
The Peace Of Our Land Is Not Negotiable- Fayemi
In a reaction to the current political crisis rocking Ado Ekiti, the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, in a state broadcast this afternoon (Friday) announced an imposition of dusk-to-dawn curfew on all parts of the state.
“I have taken the decision to institute a dusk to dawn curfew in the state immediately. Accordingly, there would be no movement between the hours of 7.00 p.m. and 7.00 a.m. everyday till further notice,” he said.
Fayemi, who reportedly suspended his thank-you tour of the state also ordered the state’s Attorney General to issue a legal advisory to the Chief Judge of the state and all the parties to the existing cases in the State High Court and the Ekiti State Governorship Elections Petitions Tribunal, in order to seek an alternative venue outside the state for the hearing of the cases.
“The State can no longer afford to witness the bizarre spectacle of the beating up of judicial officers and wanton intimidation of lawyers and court personnel,” Mr. Fayemi said.
Meanwhile, some residents believe that, the development is in reaction to the murder of the former state chairman of the union, Omolafe Aderiye, aka lafeade, who was reportedly killed on Thursday, by yet to be identified gunmen.
Ekiti seems to have been secretly boiling, as it would be recalled that on September 22, a group of hoodlums reportedly attacked the Ekiti State High Court and disrupted the proceedings in a case challenging the eligibility of the Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose to contest June 21 held governorship election.
On September 23, thugs loyal to the State Governor-elect Ayodele Fayose, allegedly assaulted one Justice John Adeyeye near the State High Court for being rude to the governor.
